Chapter 6: Assault on Urgruem Caverns

Having provided the other prisoners with the necessary distraction to make it unscathed down the ropes, Bran lands near the orcs and attacks one of them with his dwarven waraxe. The orc however dodges his attack. While the six laborers make their escape, the two remaining Argent Legionnaires besides Bran, follow their captain into melee with the remaining Urgruem warriors in the ravine, attacking the savage brutes with their longswords. One of them misses, but the other hits an orc for 13 damage. There are seven orcs remaining in the ravine...

Turning his head between the two possible courses of action and finding himself without any effective means of getting off the cliff in a hurry, Kardalis follows Imarra and Myrdin, hoping that Doedance knows what he's doing and where he's going.

From atop the cliff, Nerea fires an arrow at the orc Rhenwald wounded, striking it on the shoulder for 4 points of damage. "That's more like it," she says, as she quickly nocks a second arrow.

Avis watches the orcs retreat. "They really are cowardly without their glorious leaders, aren't they?" she muses. She looks about to see how the others have fared. Amra, Rhenwald, and Nerea surround her, with Bran and the prisoners standing below. "Imarra and Kardalis never showed," she observes. She addresses those standing with her on the cliff. "Either they're dawdling back inside, or they chased after Doedance. I'm going to check on them; whatever prompted that scream can't be good."

She turns to run back into the cavern. When she sees that the room is empty, she mutters, "Damn it, Doedance," and sprints down the hall he had entered before.

She spots Imarra, Kardalis, and Myrdin. "There you are," she breathes, winded from running. "What are you three—" As her gaze wanders across the room, her eyes fall to the gruesome scene below them. "Oh, this is just perfect. Thank the gods. I thought this was going to be easy," she says, words dripping with sarcasm.

Seeing Myrdin and the giant Centipede along with its victim there is no question for Imarra what they have to do. She holds the burning piece of wood high to her side as she makes the arcane gestures with her free right hand and points her finger to the Centipede. Arcane energy channels through her arm towards the index finger and three magical arrows shoot from it, spiraling around each other, racing towards the Centipede, impacting for 12 points of force damage.

Kardalis curses under his breath as he fruitlessly scans the room for the Cave Mother.
"I hate it when they get away"
Turning to the more immediate threat, Kardalis circles around the beast, seeking to stab it in the hind quarters, aiming for it's vitals.
He lunges forward and his crystal sword bites deep, through the exoskeleton, ravaging the soft flesh beneath.
(12 damage)

Kardalis watches the descent of the monstrous creature, and breathes out a long sigh.
"Are we done now?"
Rubbing his temples, he retreats from the edge sheathes his sword after snapping it forward a couple time, to remove the gore.

"I certainly hope so." Imarra answers Kardalis and begins to walk down the slope to get to the last prisoner, tied to the pole "Hold out a little longer, I'm coming.". Carefully and slowly she holds the burning wood up to light her way and keep an eye out for any traps, until she drops her lightsource at the bottom of the slope, the heat getting too close to her hand and too much to hold on longer.
As she draws closer Imarra reassures him "Captain Brightfist is taking the others to the station himself and sent all of us to get you out of here. Can you walk?" before taking out her dagger to cut him free.

Giving him a smile at the humor the injured man manages to muster, Imarra wraps one arm around him to hold him up while she reaches with the other to cut his binds, ready to lean him onto her shoulder should he need to. "Let's get you out of here then." the young wizard tells Morn and looks up to her companions.

Just then, Nerea rounds the corner, bow in hand. She pauses beside Avis, her heart still racing. "The prisoners are safe outside. What, uh..." She pauses, casting about for any sign of a threat. "What happened in here?"

"We had a slight infestation. It's been taken care of," says Avis. Somewhat miffed at her lack of contribution in the fight against the centipede, she begins to look around the room for anything interesting. Ikkri appears from her hood and positions himself on her shoulder, ready to lend his eyes.

Myrdin Doedance: Myrdin walks over to the edge of the cliff next to Kardalis, looking at the impaled monster beneath them, and then at the half-drow, nodding to him in respect. "Impressive work, Kardalis." The blue-haired moon elven Harper then proceeds to put his exquisite bow back on his back, before putting two fingers in his mouth and whistling loudly. His blue-feathered hawk answers with a majestic screech from afar and comes flying from the upper caverns and lands on his outstretched arm, where upon he gives the beautiful bird of prey a small piece of meat. "Good girl, Gweyr."

Myrdin Doedance: Myrdin nods in agreement. "Aye. I also promised you payment for helping me out here, and I'm sure Lady Dragonspur would be interested in meeting you all as well... The portal leads directly to Dragonspur's house in Jalanthar, but I'm not sure she's there at the moment. She mentioned some business she had to attend to in Everlund, right before I left for Fort Falknar. You may also want to have a meeting with Bran Brighthand and his commander, Badel Kilmander, as I'm quite certain the Argent Legion would be rather interested in retaliating against the Kreels as well..."
